Trooper!!!

Akshar  is always Daddy’s boy. He even words out “Nana” when he cries.  Amma  is always a plan B to him. But,  Saharsh  is on the other territory (for now). Though he follows “Anna/Big Bro” in all the activities, he picks “Amma” as his priority. And he is possessive in most of the aspects about “Amma”. I kind of liked that closeness especially, when the elder one is like touch me not when Dad is around. I joke around saying we don’t need even glue and that how much he sticks to me when he is at home. That kind of opens another door to his personality. When I drop at day care, it is usually a scary  sight  with screams of crying and gallons of tears. That makes my day worse. Today is one among those days. He has to change places (day care) and yesterday was his first day at the new place (Sanctuary Kids care). I  was tensed  since Monday night and barely slept thinking about the next morning. And why it is? See the story below.  😉 The da...

“Mommy” PM

I like planning and loves to see when things get executed perfectly according to my plans. I am not talking about 7 figures related Engineering project works. It’s about    the 4 people household project I am referring to. Being a working mom it’s a bigger challenge trying to balance house hold work and office. What I have learnt over the years is that task will be easier if your planning is well done. Be it grocery shopping, meal planning or cooking, everything  can be  made easier. And the strategy behind that is a well-designed plan. Am I sounding like a design Engineer. Well I am one of them so I can’t put together a post without those techie terms. OK, Enough of Engineering crap. Let’s get back to my post. How I start and execute. Below are some key tactics that helped me succeed as “Mommy” Program manager. 1.        To start I always plan my weekly lunch and dinner by Friday of the previous week. Do you remember that Yawn we exper...

Eerie Silence

I am not a stranger to travelling alone on flights. But for the past 4+ years my travel is always with my two little munchkins.    I did take couple of work trips in domestic flights which are short and my colleagues were with me providing company. So when I started planning this trip to get  Saharsh  back to Columbus, I realized I have to travel alone one way. And I assumed I will enjoy that quiet time or me time. I am wrong and I realized it in the first leg of my flight. I hated each lonely moment, hated the silence since there is no crying or continuous chatter with never-ending questionnaire, hated when I ate my food where there are no spills or gulping, hated sleeping long without the little warm body touching me or disturbing me every 5 minutes, hated navigating easily through the layovers without hands full of luggage or restroom breaks, hated for not able to use the tiniest bathroom multiple times, hated when I was able to use bathroom pe...

Desi Confused By....

Image
ABCD – If you are one among the Thousands of Indians living in USA, this term is not a new one to you. American Born Confused Desi is a sarcastic term used to address the kids that are born to first generation Indian immigrants. Couple of years back my best buddy introduced me another counteractive term to address the people who use ABCD. DCBA – Desi Confused by America. At that time, it did not make me any sense but felt more humorous. But as I spent the next 10+ years of my life in USA, I am understanding the significance of this term and its applicability towards me. But in a slightly changed way… DCBH – Desi Confused by Home. Every year around December my workplace is shut down for a week to 10 days which makes everyone to plan trips or have vacations. At that time, one question I get bombarded with(from my colleagues) : Are you going home? Every time I hear that “HOME”, my brain starts playing a tricky game and confuses me more. And this home thing stings me har...

Special Days

By now we all know how social media has taken the grip of our life. Especially on all those “Special Days”. Do you know what I am talking about? Yes, Women’s day, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day or the recent hot pick Girl Child Day. I see bunch of my social media friends (as well as so called celebrities) getting to their accounts and recognizing their kid’s on this day with captions like they adore or love or treasure them. Who is not going to do with their children? Is it what this day is calling for? To treat the child as treasure on one day in the year? Let’s talk little bit on Girl Child day. India saw lot of female foeticides in 80s to 90s. Great reason behind the current gender ratios. Females are considered or weighed in as burden because of wedding(and post wedding like deliveries etc.,) expenses and not supporting aging parents later. All these led to unlawful checks and terminations. And finally, Indian government has to step in to improve the ratios and educate citizens ...

Monday ,7.30AM. Driving to work… Mom S: Hello Cutie Pie, How are you? Baby S: Gaah.. paatyiooo…chiyoo. Laa… gaa Mom S: Ohh is it, looks like you had a great day . Did you eat good? Baby S: taaaa..saaa..kadaa..waah… Mom S: No honey, you have to complete the food. It will make you stronger. Baby S: gaaa..taaa..paaa…yeeee Mom S: Ok, that sounds good. Make sure to complete everything tomorrow. Take care, bye. I hung up, turn off my car engine and pick my things from the car. It is still dark outside(Thanks to the longer darker winters) as I walk in to the office and then to my cube. Many people are busily peeking in to their monitors around my desk but most of my team won’t make it until 9. Which means I still have sometime before my meetings kick in and the week keeps me busy. I slowly unwrap my Egg sandwich and start memorizing my conversation with baby S . Though it is my routine conversation as I drive to my work I will be left with a heavy heart for few minutes ...

Jobless.....

Year: 1995 Month and date: mid of November Time: Evening After returning from school daughter is waiting for her mother's return from her office. Playing along with her little sister she is giving a quick look at the bus stop now and then. After several tries she was successful and there was a million dollar smile...she ran to her mom. Daughter: Mom why are you so late? Mom: I was not able to catch the previous bus. Daughter: Why? Mom: I had some work to complete at the office, Daughter: Why? Though mom was tired with the hectic day she took all the patience in answering the questions from her little kid. Mom: Some urgent work. Daughter: You are always late... Daughter: Why don't you stop working so that I can play with you when I return from the school and also in holidays. Mom started smiling at her innocent kid.. Mom: What I should do in the time you go to school...I get bored all the day Daughter: You never listen to me... She frowns at her mom and leaves near to the other ...

Weekend manias...Night out gossips...sweet quarrels....sharing our sorrows...long night drives....partying times...dance practices.....serious advices....group studying in Youngs...surveys of SRC....My Masters Life...A mix of all the spices of life. Never thought that I will have this good life in US. I came to know about this people when I got a call from Prathima asking me to share the apartment. Later we are joined by Swetha, Satya, Vijaya Lakshmi. But the plans changed when we came here. So finally Prathima,Vijaya sree and I became roomies in APT# 18 of Pres Ave, called as mini India. It was an interesting and a funny moment when Potti Para joined the troop. Completely unknown to each other we all became close. Later we have shifted to Apt#33.... para becoming the other roomie....Press became the most happening place and perhaps I can never forget this beautiful place in my life. Then Kinnera joined this mad group in Summer....we became Mass from Class lol....And finally entrance to...

Blogging

Why do we blog? I didn't think about this until I was questioned by my friend. Yes why we do we blog....Hmmmmm...Very difficult to answer but definitely a good question which made me to investigate myself :P..... I wasn't aware of BLOG till last year. I came to know thru one of my friends when I visited her orkut profile and saw her favourite web page. Then I started exploring "BLOG SPOT". I loved the way they expressed their feelings. After rigorous exploration finally I came with my own. Whenever we watch a movie, read an article or experience a particular incident you will be left with an impression. You can't discuss with other people at that time(b'coz they might not be interested or they might be busy or something other). Then you can pen down ur feelings immediately (instead of wasting others time)....And what I feel is this is their own jahan where you can express yourself. I don't know whats the reason behind other peoples blogs but I feel that...

CRY-UKY's KADAM

Image
KADAM -A SMALL STEP FOR A CHILD'S RIGHT..... On March 29th we organised last event of CRY- UKY for the year 2007-2008. Till last year there have been only car washes, walks and setting up of booths organised by CRY- UKY as part of fundraising events. KADAM added as a new baby for the Lexington chapter. Last year in May when we had meeting before car wash one of our most active volunteers( Harsha ) came up with an idea of CRY-NIGHT. Every one felt that it was a good idea but struggled for the proper time to implement that. Because during fall semester,ISA will have a big event called DIWALI DHOOM . Students will not afford for another event in the same semester. So the idea submerged. We conducted car wash which was a big success...we raised around 700$ and walmart people refused to match the amount as it was big :(. Then came CRY-WALK which was a failure (though we raised more amount thru donations). Every one felt like having CRY-NIGHT but at the same time pulled their hair fo...

Meeting Dr.Kalam

Image
Wowwwwwwww its like a dream come true for me. I am a big fan of his and during my Engineering days I used to listen to his every Presidential addresses with out missing any one of them. Amma and Bhavani(my best friend of B.tech)are the big sufferers for my endless lectures about him. I never thought I can meet him and talk to him. In January I came to know about his visit, later we were asked to send the interested candidates names to perform for the event. I bugged my friends for our participation but none of them showed interest, so I personally sent my name to organisers. Later I got a call from them regarding audition. Then swe woke up from a dream and sort of begged me [:P] to convince those people to include hers. Finally both of us took part, met him personally and left with an unforgettable experience. I was on cloud nine that day and calling all the people and informing them about my achievement.Still its like a dream and I am questioning myself ...."Did I meet him?"

Busy Bee...

Dance practice...Fliers...Potluck...Compearing...Coding...etc...etc. This has been my schedule since last month. I am running like anything and now I am like a bird that has been just released from the cage. Last 4 weeks I have been in a state of fast forward mode.Dancing for Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam program and then organising our CRY-UKY's KADAM its like a hectic schedule for me to maintain all these things. So I didn't get a chance to express my views on some of my memorable experiences that have been happening since a month. So I will post them one by one before my hibernation stage.(I want to sleep more,....want to watch movies...play and moreover want to gossip with my buddies which I have already started :P).

Coding and Coffee

Image
During my Engineering I have aversion against coding.I don't know the reason but I developed a bad feeling against it. This might be of my low grades in those subjects. That's one of the reasons behind my Masters. B'coz if I choose job I have to work in S/W. But to my surprise I have to do the same boring thing which I hated for years. Though it is signal processing I need to deal with that tiring job. I Have been working on my independent study where I need to write a code for the interface......working continuously for 6 months I didn't end up with any result but gained some other bad habits......one among them is Coffee. I have no habit of drinking coffee until my engineering. Even during B.tech I had it only occasionally. My sis is a coffee lover and she is always behind my mom poking her for a cup of coffee instead of milk. Immediatley I will be in that place in Budda's avatar preaching her the effects of it on health. Now I got addicted to it in such a way th...

Passion For Dance

Image
Dance, the word itself makes me to move my legs and swing my body. But I didn't get a chance to learn any cultural dance during my childhood. My parents were always afraid that this might ruin my studies. One more thing was transportation.I go by school bus. Dance class used to be a bit early. If I want to attend the class my parents must drop me. As both of them are working they are busy to do that. As a result my passion to learn was submerged during my school days. I used to take part in the other programs like skits, mime shows and some times in small dances. But never performed a cultural one. So I always longed for one. After my school days I didn't get a chance to perform on stage. But my passion for dance woke up during masters. I started learning Zumba in the Recreation center. And again taking part in small programs. Now I am performing for one more program.During the practices I have a strange feeling when I watch little girls dancing. I remember my school days and I ...

MOM U R 'THE BEST'

Image
Whenever I am asked about my role model I get confused.I have the feeling that no person is perfect in this world. So I used to point out their qualities instead referring to them in person. Because even people like Gandhiji also have some drawbacks. But I feel the only person with out any flaws is MOTHER. She is the person whose love is incomparable to anyone. Relationship of mother with the child is the best thing with out any selfishness. Motherhood is the best part of a woman's life. I am very grateful to this person in my life. She is the one behind my success in every step of my life. I may yell at her or care about her or help her or other. Whatever may be the only reason behind everything is she is the closest person for me in this world. She saw best and worst parts of life. But in every phase I saw her audacity. Not only I saw her as best mother but also as best wife and best daughter. And the reason behind this post is to wish her on an auspicious occassion.i.e.,HAP...

HEIGHTS OF LAZINESS

Image
I have been idle in my blog since a long time. We went on a short trip to Cincinnati.Later I have been busy with my home works, then came the deadly midterm. So completely in a busy schedule for 2 weeks. Later my laziness occupied the seat. I have my other subject works and some small tasks to be completed. I even thought of writing a topic in the blog. But I was damn lazy and didn't complete a single task after the exam on Monday. Then came the Friday and I have finally decided to work at least during the weekend. But my plans were ruined by our apartment staff. They have asked us to pack the whole stuff from the house as they want to spray the roach killer. Finally we need to mess the whole weekend and I didn't complete my work. Even monday and today also we are cleaning and washing everything. So I have stacks and stacks of work to be completed and I don't know when I will make it up. I have been complaining about myself and decided to change at least now. We all know the...

BUDUGU

Image
'NAA PERU BUDUGU.INKO PERU PIDUGU.MA BAMMA HAARI PIDUGA ANTUNDHI.....' a perfect introduction about this frisky child. This is one of my favourite cartoon characters.Every year book exhibition will be arranged in my home town during the first week of january. And by default it was my dad's responsbility to take me there. Inspite of his busy schedule he spares a day for me in that week and finally I will be getting my precious new year gifts(ofcourse lots of books).I think I was in my sixth standard when my father bought this beautifull book for me from book exhibition. Before and after that I got many books in addition to weeklies like 'BALA MITHRA' 'CHANADAMAMA' 'TINKEL'.......But I don't know why this character fascinated me more when compared to others.I read the book so many times that my dad had to face the wrath of my mom for my wastage of time. BUDUGU character is just like the children in our household. The way he creates troubles, he quest...
